Hey Lorne,

it's been a long time but I got your newsletter about your new site...and

it made me remember that I have been meaning to email you. Just wanted to

let you know that we have a new cd out and wanted to arrange getting you a

copy if you haven't heard it yet. We owe you a lot (as we still use the

techniques and riffs you taught us years ago) and getting you a copy is

the least I could do.

Let me know where to mail one or where I should drop one off...

..you're in the "thank you" section after all.

hope the guitar instruction is going well and you're breading some shredders!

sincerely,

Luke Hoskin

Hey Lorne,

Nice to see things are going well for you. You got a pretty solid store

with some nice axes! If I'm ever in the area I'll drop by and check it

out. Things with me are going well, and the band is still kicking. I'm

playing on an ESP LTD these days and am really digging it.

all the best

LORNE!

Its Bobby Long! I've been trying to find a way to contact for a while

now lol. So uh sorry I couldn't teach with you in Port Hope. I got caught up

in school and I never got to say bye and thanks for teaching me pretty much

everything a student could hope for from a teacher. I still play as if it

were my job lol.

But yea I've been making random recordings. You can check them out at:

www.myspace.com/bobbylongmusic

Anyways I'll come out to Port Hope sometime and we should go for a beer or

something whenever you aren't busy :P.

Later Lorne,

-Bobby

ps you're still first person on the special thanks list if I ever put out an

album lol

Lorne,

Our son Sean attended other well know music schools in the Durham area which did not satisfy Sean's eagerness to learn. A friend whose son had been to Don't Fret Guitar Instruction had referred us to you.

Sean was instantly captivated by your style and he was eager to learn. His half hour classes were altered to one hour classes as the progress was swift, and the positive impression surpassed your student, and we as parents were completely motivated to support and encourage our son as he learned different music and styles.

Our support and belief in your style of teaching was clearly evident asDon't Fret Guitar moved from Whitby to Port Hope. We continued to make the weekly trek to Port Hope as it was unanimous that we all did not want the music classes with Lorne interrupted. Unfortunately college has dictated this year that Sean reside in another part of the Province making the challenge virtually impossible. Lorne, your passion for the art of music, the energy you put forth in teaching, the confidence you instil in your students are remarkable traits that you hold as a person and as a teacher.

You have given not only our son but countless others the ability to accept an art, inflict their own style and hold a deeper appreciation for themselves and to rise and master challenges set forth for them.We thank you for all you have done for us, our son and those who have the pleasure of listening to his music. We appreciate the countless, thankless hours you personally sacrificed for the annual concerts so the parents could have their crowning moments and expose others to the progress of your students.

Don't Fret Guitar has been a warming experience in our lives and for you Lorne, we will be eternally grateful for your positive influence on our son, for being a wonderful teacher and leaving a legacy in his life. Lorne, it is with sincerity that we close with the pleasure has been all ours and thank you. Al and Linda Colgan

Hey Lorne, It's Dan Sullivan,If you got any students struggling with the whole 'shred' thing I suggest you sell them some jazz picks, there no good for strumming but are less cumbersome when it comes to fast riffs and sweeps with tapping where the pick can get in the way.

When I was teaching kids who wanted to play technical metal I would start them off with the bandDeath, songs from 'Sounds of Perseverance', then Martyr, songs from'Warp Zone', then Necrophagist, songs from 'Epitaph'. But as much as Iwork towards faster metal-ish playing, my forte is still the blues/jazz that you taught for all those years. Anyways I hope all is well with you, and if you ever need anything email or call me.Dan

I love the stuff on your site, Lorne. I find a lot of your techniques beyond the capability of my stubby, pre-arthritic fingers, but I never fail to learn something when I work through one of your essays.

The people in the guitar group I run at the local senior center can't, and really don't want to, learn anything beyond standard major and minor scales, let alone improvisation. But, gradually, some of them are starting to warm up to more modern musical forms due to their liking some of the cool songs I work up for them. I read stuff like your articles to get ideas, so your message is getting through to them, in part, even if it is second-hand. Keep up the good work.
